Export volume decreased, coal price still increased 3.5 times

According to the General Department of Customs, the export price of coal in June reached 403 USD/ton, an increase of nearly 3.5 times compared to June 2021. Accumulating 6 months, the average export coal price reached 320 USD/ton, up 2.5 times over the same period in 2021.

Export volume decreased because coal enterprises had to give priority to supplying thermal power plants.

Accordingly, in June, coal exports of all kinds reached 116 thousand tons, equivalent to 47 million USD, down 14% in volume and 13% in value compared to May and down 2.7 compared to June 2021.

Generally, in 6 months, coal exports reached 695 thousand tons, equivalent to 228.5 million USD, down 21.5% in volume and 2.1 times in export turnover over the same period in 2021.

Dang Thanh Hai, General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV), said that in the first six months of the year, TKV produced more than 22 million tons of raw coal, reaching 56% of the year plan, up 7%. compared to the same period in 2021.

Mining coal production units added 1.4 million tons of coal to serve electricity production and market demand.

Coal consumption reached 24.6 million tons, reaching 57% of the year plan, electricity consumption alone was 18.2 million tons, reaching 52% of the year plan and equaling 99% of the same period in 2021.

In the third quarter, TKV is expected to produce 10.5 million tons of raw coal and consume 10 million tons. In the first 9 months of the year, coal consumption will reach at least 80% of the year plan, and the output targets for coal, mineral, chemical, and electricity production will reach 75-80%.
